Coenzyme Q10 (CQ10) is found in almost every cell in the body. It is a powerful antioxidant that neutralises the damaging effects of free radicals that are linked to the ageing process.
CQ10 is especially important in the process of energy creation and whenever there is a demand for increased energy there is also an increased demand for CQ10.
Research has shown it to be useful in maintaining a healthy heart, blood pressure and blood sugar control. The ability of the body to produce CQ10 declines with the ageing process (see table) with sharp reductions from between the ages of 40-50 and 50-60. Top food sources are found in liver and oily fish.
